I started this piece during the summer of 2019 when I was taking a sound design elective called Music Sequencing. My professor knew I was very familiar with Ableton Live already & encouraged me to push myself beyond the expectations & requirements of the course. I thought to myself “What kind of song have I not made yet?” and set out to make exactly that, hoping I could end the 10 week quarter with something amazing I could put out or continue working on into the new year. I can’t really say what type of song this is though... Is it Gospel? R&B? Soul? Jazz? There are so many doses of inspiration in this one… It really is a sound I haven’t touched down on yet but one I’ve been needing… “Don’t Test My Love” isn’t just a song to me anymore, it’s the envelope of a mood, the rise before the fall… My personal gem that’s been chiseled out of thoughtful nights hating it, loving it, and wanting more out of it. And part of getting more out of it relied on me inviting some talented friends of mine to get involved with taking it to new heights. I had the pleasure of enlisting artists @notetonote and @brennan.wilson.mitchell to harmonize with me on the vocals, and @seanwintersax to round out the cascading build-up of voices with a beautiful saxophone solo. These 3 immensely talented musicians have allowed me to make this song what it is & each of them deserves your follow. Trishana is always knocking out a new 30 day vocal challenge on her IG, Brennan can be seen performing live with his band Mr. Wait around Savannah GA, and Sean is frequently uploading videos of his saxophone chops to YouTube. Please check them out! It took many months to get this record to where it is today, but I personally think it was worth it. “Don’t Test My Love” releases on all platforms October 30th & it would mean a lot to me if you could hit the pre-save link in my bio!
